Det Norske Teatret is a national theatre in Oslo that stages performances in New Norwegian and other Norwegian dialects. Established in 1912 following an initiative by Hulda Garborg and Edvard Drabløs, the theatre now has three stages in central Oslo and presents a wide repertoire of contemporary drama, musical theatre, and classics.

Det Norske Teatret is centrally located in Oslo, at Kristian IV's gate 8, right next to Karl Johans gate and the Parliament (Stortinget).

It is easy to reach the theatre on foot, by bicycle, public transport, or car.

  • Accessibility: There is step-free access to the audience areas via elevator for all stages in the main building:
  • Main Stage (Hovudscenen): step-free access to row 15
  • Stage 2 (Scene 2): step-free access to row 2
  • Stage 3 (Scene 3): step-free access to row 1
  • Rommen Stage: Step-free access. An elevator is required for access to all auditoriums in the main building. Wheelchair spaces must be booked in advance via phone, email, or at the ticket counter.
  • Number of wheelchair spaces:
  • Main Stage: 2 spaces
  • Stage 2, Stage 3 and Rommen Stage: 1 space each
  • Seating: All auditoriums have designated wheelchair spaces, and there is step-free access to selected rows as mentioned above.
  • Interpretation and hearing systems: Det Norske Teatret does not have an induction loop system, but offers IR systems (infrared sound systems) in all auditoriums.
    These can be used both with and without hearing aids.
    Equipment can be borrowed from audience hosts upon arrival.
    For the best sound quality on the Main Stage, seating from row 5 and further back is recommended.
  • Tickets: Tickets are sold through Det Norske Teatret’s website.
    There are no separate companion tickets available in the ticketing portal.
